The Eastport Girls Club (EGC) is a grassroots mentoring program for girls in grades 5-9 who are living in public housing communities in Annapolis, MD. EGC operates in partnership with the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis (HACA).
EGC is currently offered on Tuesdays from 3:30-6:00 p.m. at the Eastport Community Center. Programming includes a weekly after-school program, a tutoring/reading intervention program, and the provision of one-on-one support and mentoring. We link girls to community opportunities that enhance their talents. Our approach is both relational and skill-based. We believe that strengths are promoted, positive changes facilitated, and problems avoided through relationships with caring adults.
MISSION STATEMENT
To provide young women facing challenging issues within our community with enriching experiences and mentoring relationships that promote self-awareness, the attainment of individual goals, respect for self and others, and a willingness to explore and serve the world around them.
OUR VISION
Participants will graduate from high school, attend college (or some other structured educational or job training program), achieve financial independence, be in healthy relationships, be physically healthy, and feel confident in a variety of cultural and social settings.
OUR MOTTO
Girls Club girls are strong, smart and successful. This overarching belief and expectation weaves through our mission, vision, and programming.
